AVANTI 2017

The AVANTI Summer MusicFest was conceived by The Musicians of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and currently operates with administrative support from the Chamber Music Society of Detroit.

The AVANTI Board of Directors administers the AVANTI Workshop and Festival (concert) activities.  Its 2016-2017 members are as follows:

  • Linton Bodwin:  Chairman
  • Alan MacNair: Vice-Chairman
  • Beverly Williams: Secretary
  • Kevin Good: Member at Large
  • Steve Wogaman: Member at Large

AVANTI Summer MusicFest –  Festival Director and AVANTI co-founder

DSO trumpet player Kevin Good  has joined AVANTI as its first Festival Director. Kevin has served in the DSO trumpet section since September 1979. and is one of the founders of the acclaimed Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings.

In addition to performing and producing, Good has overseen the development and implementation of music programs and grants for young students, and frequently teaches master classes. He also coaches for the Waterford School system, the Michigan All-State Program, and the Interlochen National Music Camp.

 

 

AVANTI Summer MusicFest –  Retired Workshop Director and AVANTI co-founder

Shelley HeronShelley Heron was a member of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra oboe section from 1985-2014.  Since her retirement from the DSO, she continues to be active as a teacher and clinician.  Shelley led a series of master classes at the International Festival of Youth Orchestras and Wind Ensembles at Banff, Alberta, and the Glenn Gould School in Toronto.  She has conducted reed making classes at Michigan State University, taught at the University of Michigan and the University of Western Ontario and maintains a private studio at her home in London, Ontario.

Shelley cofounded the AVANTI Summer MusicFest and currently serves as a member of AVANTI’s Board of Directors.   

 

AVANTI Summer MusicFest –  Workshop Coordinator

Faith ScholfieldFaith Scholfield is currently Second Oboe & English horn with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra (Windsor, Canada), a position she has held since September, 2004.  She regularly performs throughout southwestern Ontario and southeastern Michigan and maintains private teaching studios in both Windsor and Livonia, Michigan.

Faith received her Master of Music in Oboe from the University of Michigan, a student of Dr. Nancy Ambrose King.  She received her Bachelor of Music and Performance Certificate in Oboe from the Eastman School of Music, a student of Mr. Richard Killmer.  Faith has previously performed with the Macau Orchestra (China) and at the Aspen Music Festival and Banff Centre for the Arts. 

In addition to performing and teaching, Faith is the Education & Outreach Manager for the Windsor Symphony Orchestra and the Workshop Coordinator for the AVANTI Summer MusicFest and Chamber Music Society of Detroit.
